William E. Parsons, Jr. of Hockessin, Delaware, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 28th, 2017. He passed away at home, spending his final week on this earth surrounded by all who loved him most. He will be immensely missed by all his family and friends.

William (Bill) was born on October 9, 1943 in West Chester, Pennsylvania to William and Josephine Parsons. He has a brother and sister, Barry and Bev. He grew up in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and went to Penn State University and the University of Delaware. He earned his B.S. in business administration and worked for many years at both NOR-AM Chemical Company and then Agrevo. When Bill retired from Agrevo, he began working at Brandywine Valley Baptist Church as the church administrator. Through this experience, he felt called to go back to school and he attended Biblical Theological Seminary, where he earned a masters degree. He then became the Executive Pastor of Brandywine Valley Baptist Church. He served there tirelessly, heading up several projects and overseeing the benevolence ministry, which helped countless people in need of love and support.

When Bill retired from his role as Executive Pastor, his love for life and inability to sit still for too long led him to pursue another adventure. At the ripe age of 70, he went to trucking school and drove trucks up and down the entire East Coast. He enjoyed many adventures during this time. His wife, Darlene, was able to share some of them with him. He loved calling his grandchildren to meet him at local truck stops to visit with him and climb on his truck.

Bill married his sweetheart, Darlene Ruth Baker, on December 19, 1970. They raised two daughters, Amy and Michelle. They welcomed two sons-in-love, Mike and Mark, into the family and seven grandchildren: Jack, Nick, Luke, Julia, Abby, Anna, and Caroline. They also recently welcomed their first great-granddaughter, Violet, and will soon gain granddaughters-in-love, Katherine and Ireland. Of all of Bill’s occupations and adventures, his favorite roles were husband, father, and grandfather. He was a strong, kind, wise, and gentle leader for his entire family.

Bill was diagnosed in 2016 with an extremely rare and aggressive type of kidney cancer. He retired from trucking and spent this past year doing what he loves most, spending time with family and friends and teaching a Sunday School class that was on par with what you would find in a seminary. His faith, love of life, and positive attitude was in full force this past year as he battled this disease. We are eternally thankful for his oncology team at Abramson Cancer Center who God used to give him many months of living fully after diagnosis. His family and friends will miss him terribly but we are so thankful he is eternally whole and in the presence of Jesus.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5th at 11 AM with visitation beginning at 9 AM at Brandywine Valley Baptist Church, 7 Mt. Lebanon Road, Wilmington, DE. The burial will be private.
