NORMAN C. WILKINSON, JR.

Norman C. Wilkinson, Jr., age 72, passed into the hands of the Lord on September 20, 2017. Norm was born in Wilmington, DE to the late Alice E. and Norman C. Wilkinson, Sr. He graduated from P. S. DuPont High School and attended Goldey Beacom College. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and proudly served his country in Vietnam in 1967-68. He was in the MeKong Delta and served a dual role of company clerk and infantryman. While there he received the Bronze Star, Bronze Star with V Device, Purple Heart, and 2 Army Commendation Medals. After returning to the States and while stationed at Fort Dix, he met his wife and soul mate, Pat Kelly. Together they shared 47 years of marriage.

Norm joined the Delaware City Jaycees in 1974. He was Charter President of the Delaware City Jaycees, held various State offices in the Delaware Jaycees, served as President of the Delaware Jaycees and was elected one of ten National Vice Presidents of the U.S. Jaycees. He also served as Chairman of the U.S. Jaycees Awards Committee. He was a Delaware Jaycee Governor, U.S. Jaycee Ambassador, and Jaycee International Senator. Norm was a former member of the Delaware City Lions Club and served as secretary. He was a life member of the Delaware City Recreation Club. Norman was an excellent craftsman and enjoyed home projects. He was a jack of all trades. He also enjoyed bowling, skiing, boating, and Delaware football. He treasured time spent with friends.

Norman’s professional career was in the purchasing field. He worked for Hercules Incorporated for many years. He retired from the Wilmington Housing Authority in 2007.

Norman is survived by his wife and best friend, Pat; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy & Gene Downs of Endicott, NY, many wonderful cousins and friends, and his beloved pets.

Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Wednesday September 27 from 10-11am followed by a service at 11am at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington 19808. Burial will be held privately.
