ANITA L. HUNTER

Age 55, of Newark, DE, went home to be with The Lord on Thursday, November, 30, 2017, at home peacefully after a courageous struggle with cancer in Newark, DE.

Anita (aka “Lucy”) was born in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of Carol Wright Hunter and the late Paul L. Hunter. Anita graduated from Thomas McKean High School and received a BS degree in Textile and Clothing Merchandising from the University of Delaware. She began her career at Bamberger’s/Macy’s when the store first opened in Christiana Mall and worked there in various capacities. After leaving Macy’s, she worked for MBNA, gaining numerous skills in many different positions. While at MBNA she earned a Master’s Degree in Management and Human Resources from The Pennsylvania State University. When MBNA merged with another financial institution, Anita went to work for her dear friend Mary Lenhoff at Bridgewater Jewelers. She later worked for AAA Mid-Atlantic. Anita enjoyed spending time with her cherished family, cooking and baking with her mother (aka “Ethel”), which resulted in her being a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake-Off. She also enjoyed traveling the world, being a season ticket holder cheering for the Blue Hen Football team, planting flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Anita was a lifelong member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon there, as well as co-chairing the Bake Sale event with her mother for the church’s Fall Festival for many years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul L. Hunter in 2006. She is survived by her mother, Carol J. (Wright) Hunter, her brother Paul V. Hunter, her niece, Abigail Marie, her nephew Benjamin Alexander, her aunt Ruthanne Wright, her cousins George I. Wright, Nancy Ross, Beverly Bradshaw, Joanne Wright, Johnathan Wright, Emma May Hunter, R. Evan Hunter, her BFF Mary F. Lenhoff and her beloved kitty, Romeo

The family would like to give their sincere thanks to the Staff of the Helen Graham Center, The University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center, and Compassionate Care Hospice for their heartfelt kindness, compassion, care, and support given to the family.

Family and friends may call from 10am to 11am on Friday, December 15, 2017, at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennan's Church Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808. A funeral service will be held immediately after. At Anita’s request, please wear “Happy Colors” to celebrate her zest for life (thus earning the nickname “Lucy” from her mother) and her dry sense of humor. Anita also requests that you “pay it forward” with random acts of kindness in honor of her lifelong dedication to volunteerism.

Contributions can be made in Anita’s memory to the Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church or DFRC Inc., 640 Plaza Dr., Newark, DE 19702.
