Gerald “Jerry” Edward Truby, 72, of Newark, Delaware passed away suddenly on Saturday December 9, 2017 at Christiana Hospital. Born in Wilmington, Delaware to Doris and Howard Truby, Jr. on July 17, 1945, Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Howard Edmond Jr. and Doris Helen, and his brother Howard (Butch) Edmond, III.
Gerald is survived by his wife Frances (Fusco) of 51 years; sons, Patrick Gerald Jr, “Jay” (Lynne), Frank, Christopher (Sarah), daughter Jennifer (Joseph) McNesby; brother Dale (Tina); sister Debbie Fry; sister in-law Terry Truby and 6 loving grandchildren, Nathan, Jeremy, Morgan, Joey, Emerson and Christopher Jr., as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Gerald served his country as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for Formosa Plastics Corporation which he later retired from at the age of 63. Gerald enjoyed working on cars, playing card games, watching baseball games, watching wrestling with his grandkids and hanging out with his buddy Frank Walczak fishing and shooting the breeze.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday December 19 from 6-8 pm at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington 19808. A second viewing will take place on Wednesday morning from 10:30 - 11:30 followed by a service at 11:30 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in memory of Gerald Truby to the Wounded Warriors Project, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, .
