CATHERINE M. O'DONNELL

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine M. O’Donnell, 88, a resident of Wilmington, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington, Delaware. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington.

Mrs. O’Donnell passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Compassionate Care Hospice, St. Francis Hospital, in Wilmington. Catherine Marie O’Donnell was born in New York City, N.Y., the daughter of James and Catherine Conway. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Arthur John O’Donnell on March 25, 1950 in New York City, N.Y. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1977. They shared a life together for 27 happy years.

During her long life, Catherine was active as an officer in PTA associations, a Cub Scout den mother and community activities. She and her husband Arthur were very active in Church of the Holy Child and Saint Mary Magdalen Church, Wilmington. She received her nursing degree from Delaware Technical Community College and worked at Wilmington Hospital and then Christiana Hospital until her retirement in 1994.

Catherine is survived by her children and their spouses; Patrick (Cleoria) O’Donnell, Las Vegas, NV, Mary Catherine O’Donnell, Raleigh, NC, Lawrence (Lilli) O’Donnell, Tyrone, GA, Thomas O’Donnell, Wilmington, DE, Peter O’Donnell, Austin, TX, Virginia (Charles) Collins, Pitman, NJ, Elizabeth (Carl) Lambert, Garnet Valley, PA, Theresa (Bill) Thompson, Chadds Ford, PA; 17 loving grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Michael O’Donnell, a son Paul O’Donnell and a sister, Anita McDonald.

Catherine had a full life providing a loving home for her 10 children and 17 grandchildren, contributing to her community and church, and caring for the ill. Now her watch has ended. May God welcome her into his Kingdom.
