David J. Haldeman, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2017, while surrounded by family. He was 77.
Dave was born at Delaware Hospital in Wilmington on October 13, 1940, to William and Edith (Snyder) Haldeman. He lived all but the first 5 years of his life in Wilmington.
He graduated from Alexis I. duPont High School in 1958 and attended the University of Delaware. He spent his career with DuPont in the Engineering Test Center at Louviers, retiring in the early 90's. He worked several jobs in his retirement.
Dave was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed waterfowl hunting, boating, and hiking. He was an exceptional mechanic, one who restored numerous cars and wooden boats. Dave was active for many years in the Wilmington Trail Club and enjoyed walking in Delcastle Park. He devoted a lot of his time to the early clean-up efforts at Riverview Cemetery because his grandparents, parents, and brother are all buried there.
For over 45 years Dave and his family enjoyed exceptional relationships with the neighbors in his community near Milltown. He considered them family and mentioned them fondly during his last days of life.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Haldeman was pre-deceased by his older brother, William C. Haldeman.
He is survived by his sister, Ann E. Melczak (Daniel), of Dover; his son, David S. Haldeman (Kari) and their two children, Kevin and Kristin, of Middletown; and his daughter Denise Vance (Jeffrey), of Wilmington.
