RONALD JOSEPH BAKER

Ronald Joseph Baker, age 81, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018. Born and raised in Hamilton, OH, he was the son of the late Floyd and Angie Baker. A graduate of Hamilton Catholic High School, Ron attended Miami University in Oxford, OH. In 1960 he moved to Wilmington, DE and joined the Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton Corporation. Ron then joined the Hake Corporation in the mid 70’s and relocated to Manomet, MA for several years before returning to Delaware where he would retire from the Hake Corporation in 2000. Ron enjoyed his assignments through the years, especially the Pilgrim II Nuclear Plant project in Massachusetts.
Ron was married to his late wife, Mary Lou Baker (Weisbrodt) with whom he shared 35 years and raised their 4 children together.
Ron’s early involvement in scouting as a youth led to a lifelong dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as the Scout Master of Troop 61 for the Holy Rosary Parish in Delaware for many years. Ron would also serve the Boy Scouts at the council level for several years. Ron received scouting’s highest honor in 1982, the distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America, recognizing Ron for his volunteerism resulting in positive impacts on youths. As a volunteer, Ron also served in leadership roles for the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, and at the Christiana Hospital.
Ron enjoyed music throughout his life. From big band music to classical music to blue grass, he loved them all. He enjoyed playing the guitar, bass, and the piano. Ron’s passion was playing blue grass music and played in several blue grass bands through the years. Ron also enjoyed attending the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE.
Ron was also a longtime supporter of the University Of Delaware’s athletics and music departments. He enjoyed attending the Blue Hen football games and other UD men’s and women’s sporting events.

Ron is survived by his children; Gregory J Baker (Joanne), Karen M Micale, Terrence M Baker (Lynda), James P Baker (Deborah); grandchildren, Neil Baker (Stacey) and Daniel Baker, Lauren Micale and Christopher Micale, Andrew Baker and Brian Baker and Kyle, Christine and Ryan Baker; brother, Robert Baker (Rose) of Wilmington NC; sister, Mary Ann Loeffler (Bob) of Hamilton, OH, and his longtime companion, Priscilla Nacy. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his son in law, Frank Micale.
