CHARLES R. “PUDGE” JANVIER

Native and lifelong resident of Wilmington, DE, Charles R. Janvier 86 year’s young, passed away peacefully June 6, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Woodrow and Evelyn Janvier of Wilmington, DE.

A graduate of Wilmington High School he held several records as a member of the swim team and played semi-pro football. He served in the Army at Fort Riley, Kansas and rose to the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1955. While in the Army on a blind date, he met and married his wife of 53 years, Lois Ilene Reese, of Mountain Grove, MO. Following the Army, Charles and Lois moved back to Wilmington, DE. He worked as a window dresser at Sears & Co., a window decorator at Seagrams, and liquor sales person at Delaware Importers, eventually rising to become Sales Manager. He retired in 1993. His retirement years were spent doing what he loved most; woodworking, gardening, crabbing, and fishing at his beach home in Lewes, that he and Lois built together. He loved spending time with his two grandsons and sharing his love of life with them.

Besides his parents Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois; his brothers, Melvin and Donald, and his sister Patricia De John.

Charles is survived by his daughter Debra Bradley (Randy) of Chadds Ford, PA; his grandsons, Jarryd Bradley of West Chester, PA and Kyle Bradley of Beaverton, OR; his brothers, Richard Janvier of Middletown and Woodrow Janvier of Wilmington, DE and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Charles’s life will be held on Monday June 11th at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE at 11:00 AM, where friends may greet the family after 9:30. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetary.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, Bibi, Sabrina, Arlene, and Louise for the care, support, love and laughter given to Charles during this difficult period. Also thanking Carla at Griswold Home Care and Vitas Healthcare.
