Wilmington – Robert C. Pettit, age 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, June 27, 2018.
He was born in Berwick, PA to the late William and Bertha Pettit and graduated from Berwick HS. Robert proudly served his country, as a Marine, during the Korean War. He received a degree in Accounting from Goldey College. Robert was an accountant for the Medical Center of Delaware for 35 years, retiring in 1995.
He was an Eagle Scout and was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over 60 years, where he was an Assistant Scout Master at many troops and was instrumental in starting Troop 959 at Grace Lutheran Church. Robert was also a Committee Chairman for the Del-Mar-Va Council and received many awards.
He was a member of New Castle Moose Lodge, American Legion Stahl Post 30 and Grace Lutheran Church.
Robert was also preceded in death by his 2 daughters, Cheryl A. Pettit and Pamela J. Watts and his brothers, William Pettit and Fred Shepperly. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Pettit; 3 grandchildren, Ashley Watts (Matt), Sherry Dixon (Paul) and Robin Watts; 6 great grandchildren, Matthew Robert, David, Noah, Andrew, Alex and Michael and son-in-law, Gilbert Watts.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to BSofA, or Grace Lutheran Church, 2033 Graves Rd., Hockessin, DE 19707.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 5, from 10-11 am, at McCrey & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, where a funeral service will follow at 11am. Burial will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
