Newark - Andrew J. Kelleher, age 90, formerly of Claymont, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 20, 2018.
He was born in West Chester, PA to the late Andrew and Evelyn Kelleher and graduated from Salesianum School in 1946, then the University of Delaware with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1950. While working at Philadelphia Electric (PECO) he was drafted in the Army and served in the 101st Airborne Div., Signal Corps. Andrew returned to PECO for a total of 37 years working in the System Planning Dept and retired in 1989.
He was an avid reader, owning over 1000 books, especially in the field of History. Andrew was known to enjoy Sunday mornings doing the New York Times Crossword Puzzle without any assistance until his decline, while playing Classical music deafening throughout the house. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Europe with his wife Kathryn. In retirement he researched his family genealogy and wrote his own book on his memoirs. He had an engaging Irish wit and a zest for life. Andrew also enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Hazelmoor on the Chesapeake with neighbors who were like family. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Kathryn; 3 sons, Andy "Jim" (Sharon), Daniel, and Brian (Kimberley); 9 Kelleher grandchildren; 2 extended family Morley grandchildren, a great grandson; daughters-in-law, Elizabeth Morley and Ida “Dee”Kelleher and 3 half-siblings, John and Gerald Desmond and Elizabeth Norman. He was preceded in death by his 3 children, Kathleen Jo, Michael Sean and Mark Andrew.
Services and burial will be held privately.
