LEROY "LEE" OLSON

Leroy C. Olson “Lee” Age 83, of West Grove, PA, formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away on December 5, 2009. Born in Kane, PA, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 upon graduation from high school, serving two years in the South Pacific. Upon discharge he attended Clarion State College and then Penn State University where he received both his M.Ed. and D. Ed. He was a lifelong educator, teacher, and counselor serving in school districts in PA and DE before going to Temple University in Phila. where he retired as Professor Emeritus in 1992 after 26 years. Lee was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, the NEA, AAUP, the Council of Professors of Instructional Supervision, and many other educational organizations. He was a member for 52 years of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, trustee and chairman of the board, served on various committees, and founded the Health Ministry program for the church. Lee was also a member of American Legion. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Miriam, 3 sons, Dave L. of High Point, NC, Thomas E. and his wife, Sue of Southampton, NJ, and Steven A. and his wife Anju of Vienna, VA, 3 grandchildren, Nicholas, Anna, and Gavin, and his brother, Russell Olson and his wife, Joyce of Sheffield, PA. Friends may call on Friday, December 11, 2009 from 6-8 pm at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville. A Celebration of Lee’s Life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1530 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends may also call after 10. A Committal service will be on Monday, December 14 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
