ALICE (STEPTOE) ELLIOTT
Age 86, of Claymont, DE passed away at the home of her daughter in Bear, DE. on Sunday, December 6, 2009.
Alice was born to the late William Steptoe and Susie Gibbons, graduating from Wilmington High School in 1941. Alice went on to spend over 30 years in the travel industry, initially working in New York at both the La Guardia and Newark Airports and the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Upon returning to Wilmington in the late 1940’s, Alice eventually returned to work as a travel agent working at Brandywine Travel, Greenville Travel and Holiday Travel, a company operated by Wilmington Trust. Alice finished her working years in 2003 after 12 years in small appliance sales with Boscov’s at the Concord Mall.
Alice spent her retirement years enjoying her passions for baking, going to the movies and reading. Alice was a frequent visitor to the Claymont and Brandywine Hundred Libraries. Alice was a generous grandmother and prior to the advancement of her illness also found time to assist with Meals on Wheels deliveries.
Alice is preceded in death by her sisters Marie, Ann, Fran and Susan, as well as, two brothers, William and James. Alice is survived by her sister Rita Campbell of Denver, CO and her 4 children, Lisa Bye (Bear,DE), Leslie Orman and her husband John (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Steven and his wife Magdalena (Wilmington, DE) and Robert and his wife Suzanne (Glenn Mills , PA). Alice is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Michael, Ryan, Justin, Patrick, Isabella, Joshua and Shaun

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 11, 2009, at 1pm, at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME,3924 Concord Pk., Wilmington(Rt 202,south of Silverside Rd.), where the family will greet friends after 12 noon. Burial will be private.
