HAZEL BUCKALEW
Hazel M. Buckalew, 91, of Brandywine Hundred, died at her home on January 30, 2010.
Hazel was born in Wilmington to the late Alfred and Blanche Talley. She spent her entire working career at Wiltex Company, and also she worked part-time at Dunkin Donuts on Concord Pike. Hazel was a 75+ year member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church. As a teenager, the family moved to the farmhouse on Concord Pike where Hazel lived for the rest of her life. The family raised dairy cows and produce and later became horse boarders.
Her husband, George B. Buckalew died in 2005. Hazel is survived by her brother, Alfred “Doc” Talley; 2 nieces, Norma J. Talley and Cynthia J. Walls; great niece and nephews; great-great niece and nephew; and great-great-great nieces and nephew.
The funeral service will be held at 11am, Thursday, February 4 at the McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Route 202, south of Silverside Rd.) where friends may call from 7-9 pm Wednesday. Interment will be at Chester Bethel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring the memory of Hazel Buckalew by sending a contribution to Talleyville Volunteer Fire Co., 3919 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 or Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805.
