(Charlie)
Age 73, of Lewes, DE passed away on February 1, 2010 at home.
Charlie was born in Wilmington, DE to the late Melvin and Mary Barrett. He graduated from Wilmington High School in 1954 and was a member of the Carpenter’s Local 626. He later joined the Wilmington Police Department and retired as a Sergeant in 1982. After retirement, he worked as a federal policeman at the VA Hospital in Elsmere and later in security services at Winterthur Museum. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve.
Charlie enjoyed spending time on his boat fishing and engaging in various water sports. He also enjoyed hunting and going to the shooting range. Most recently, Charlie enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and his dog Allie at his home in Lewes. He loved reminiscing and would laugh so hard he cried!
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Melvin and his granddaughter, Amy. He is survived by his wife, Pamela, his faithful dog, Allie and his children, Sharon Barrett, Leeann Merrill, Nancy Kowalski(Tom), Michael Barrett(Dina), Meghan Barrett(Daryll) all of Wilmington. his grandchildren, Lisa Gulla(Nick), Corey, Bryan, Thomas, Cassie, Michael, Mia, and Garrett; great-grandchildren Dylan and Logan. He is also survived by his stepdaughter’s, Christina Zimmerman and Melanie Marino (Paul) and her children Emily and Lidia.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, February 8 at MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington where Friends may call from 5-7 PM. Burial will be private.
