DAVID MOON

David E. Moon Age 88, died peacefully at home on February 9, 2010 following a brief illness. A longtime resident of Wilmington, Dave was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Ernest and Margarite (Mulhern) Moon. After graduating from Upper Darby High School in 1939, Dave was hired by Scott Paper where he would remain a loyal employee until retiring in 1985. Dave served with the United States Coast Guard from 1942 – 1944 in the Atlantic & Pacific Arena. He returned to Scott Paper where he met his first wife, Mary Anne Paschall. In 1965, Dave moved his family to Wilmington, DE. Following the death of Mary Ann, Dave cared for his children alone until marrying Connie R. Russell. Together, the two shared a large extended family. After retirement, Dave enjoyed dancing and traveling with his wife, family and friends. He loved being near nature whether it be his birds in the backyard or the ocean. He was the head usher of Peninsula McCabe United Methodist Church of Wilmington, DE and a well-known fixture at Kirkwood Fitness Club. He was best known and loved for his devotion to the modest, simple values often overlooked today: honesty, neatness, thriftiness, dependability and fun. His smile will be missed by all of those he loved, those he inspired and those he enjoyed. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years, Connie; his sister, Gertrude Moon Weaver, and his son, Mark Moon. Dave is survived by his four children, Evelyn DeJohn, of Wilmington, DE, David Moon, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Wilmington, DE, Charles E. Moon and his wife Sheila of Wilmington, DE and Cheryl McClay and her husband Doug of Wilmington, DE; four step-children, Linda Morris Boderick and her husband Edward of Lewes, DE, John Rosenberg and his wife Sandra of Lincoln University, PA, Karen Apostolico and husband Vincent of Millsboro, DE, and Suzanne Brown and husband Craig of Wilmington, DE., his niece, Pamela Spitz and husband Jerry of Glen Mills, PA, his best friend Lou DeAngelo of Glen Mills, PA, 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
